Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I believe technology is at its best when it's approachable and accessible to everyone. Let's do amazing things with the tech we own!

Prediction: WWDC 2023

Prediction: WWDC 2023

It feels like something big is brewing, doesn’t it? Historically Apple delivers new beta software that is to come in the fall every year at WWDC, but I feel the overwhelming theme this year that the buzz word on the street will no longer be “AI:, but rather “AR”. If we look at the invite Apple sent out to its attendees it appears they are hinting at their long awaited AR (augmented reality) headset announcement.

Now although I do expect an announcement of this headset, let’s not expect a launch of the physical product this month. When Apple launches an entire new class of products, they need to set their developers up for success by giving them the new tools and framework to make the product really great. And this is exactly what this developer conference is about, getting new software into the Dev community hands to do what they do best, develop apps that customers love and utilize on a daily basis.

This is a highly sought after keynote for Apple, because if they do indeed announce their long awaited headset, it will be a pivotal moment for Apple as all other VR and Tech headsets that have hit the market to date have been nothing short of a flop. This could be a teaching moment to millions of people of how this new Apple technology can fit into everyday life.

Now I also predict we will get new Beta software of macOS, iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and tvOS. These all will move closer and closer together to feeling like the cohesive ecosystem we have all come to love and at this point expect. One feature I’m hopeful for would be a feature to rival the Google Pixel Camera “Magic Eraser” as I feel it would be a HUGE success for the entire Apple user base. This is the ability to remove an object or a random person from the back of your photos directly in the Photos app. I’ve been testing this feature the last few weeks and I’ve been blown away on the latest Google Pixel. Having this on iPhone and in the Photos App would be an immediate fan favorite.

New feature advancements that I also enjoy are macOS enterprise level management that allows business to empower end users to have a great experience at work with their company Mac.

I also predict we will see incremental upgrades to both the MacBook Air and the 24” iMac as these are the last 2 Mac products still shipping with the original M1 Apple Silicon processor. Basically look for any device still shipping with M1 to be refreshed.

Lastly I can see Apple jumping deeper into the ecosystem of services and touching a bit more on their most recent announcement of the Apple Card savings account. This is a high yield saving account (4.15% APY) that is super simple to set up via your iPhone using your Apple Card. The card is backed by Goldman Sachs, the same company backing the Apple Credit Card, and worked exactly how you’d expect it to work, move money and watch it grow. I will call out that since it’s a brand new product from Apple I’m not exactly sure of the tax implications which we will find out at the end of this calendar year.

This will be a keynote for the ages, as it very well may be the last big product announcement by Apple under the leadership of Tim Cook. The last big product launch was the Apple Watch which is now 9 years ago. You can stream this WWDC keynote from this link via YouTube Monday, June 5th at 1 PM EST.

All eyes on Apple this coming Monday, June 5th at 1 PM EST. This WWDC will be one for the books, and I can’t wait to see what’s next!

Be well!
