Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I believe technology is at its best when it's approachable and accessible to everyone. Let's do amazing things with the tech we own!

Opinion: iPhone SE - Timing Is Everything

Opinion: iPhone SE - Timing Is Everything

Apple’s latest product is one that will feel incredibly familiar to millions of people. Timing is everything as the phrase goes, and I personally believe this product was launched at the absolutely perfect time. With consumers now being more cost conscious than ever before, Apple packs a heck of a lot of latest technology in this new 4.7” iPhone SE.

Let’s start with the processor. This new 2nd generation iPhone SE packs a punch with the exact same processor as the iPhone 11 Pro Max! This Apple A13 Bionic chipset processor is incredibly fast. To compare it to other devices on the market, this is faster and a more capable chip than the majority of personal computers out there.

Next let’s discuss form factor. Although there will be users out there who still believe this iPhone is “too big”, I believe the 4.7” screen is as small of a screen we will get from Apple for many years. The only smaller screen in the product line is the iPod Touch coming in at 4”, and the Apple Watch screen coming in at 40 and 44 mm. The iPhone SE screen has a resolution of 1334×750 resolution and 326 PPI. PPI meaning pixels per inch, and 326 is the exact same PPI in the current iPhone 11 display. The display also supports the relatively newer feature of True Tone which is a feature to match the ambient light so that images appear more natural.

The Phone also provides an incredibly capable camera system built into the phone. The specs of it are a single 12-megapixel rear facing camera with a 7-megapixel front facing camera. The iPhone SE provides one of my favorite features, portrait mode, and six Portrait lighting effects. That’s exactly the same amount as the iPhone 11 Pro Max. Now the sensor isn’t exactly the same as iPhone 11 Pro Max, but with the same processor on the inside I’d say Apple will be relying on their software to drive performance.

This is not only a win for consumers, but a win for enterprise. Companies want to invest into the Apple ecosystem, but sometimes are priced out of it. That used to be the deal with their iPhone lineup. Previously when the original iPhone SE went out of stock and before the launch of the iPhone 11 lineup, the cheapest iPhone you were able to purchase was iPhone XR starting at $749.00. With the new iPhone SE entering the market at $399.00 it's a game changer for enterprise to offer a product to their employees that is not capable of being compliant and managed by IT departments, but also secure, and easy to use.

Purchasing the new iPhone SE directly from Apple and using the Apple Card can offer some more benefits. Apple is now offering financing directly on the Apple Card, and since this is the most affordable iPhone in the current product line, you can purchase the $399.00 64 GB model for $16.62/mo. for 24 months. Adding this option to customers not only makes it easier for people to own the latest iPhone, but also dives deeper into the Apple ecosystem regarding their services and Apple credit card.

The new iPhone SE will be around for years to come. I predict that if the phone is purchased today, you will be able to get a solid 4 years of use and supported software updates out of it. That’s quite the return on investment on a budget phone that enters the market at $399.00. In a world where smartphones are becoming more and more premium, it absolutely feels like a victory for all consumers to have a company like Apple not only listen to its customers, but provide approachable tech at a more affordable price.

Take care of eachother my friends. ❤️

Best,
