Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I believe technology is at its best when it's approachable and accessible to everyone. Let's do amazing things with the tech we own!

See a QR code? Scan it using the iPhone Camera App

The iPhone is a pretty magical device. I’ve always been passionate about using built in iOS tools on an Apple device that is capable of doing more than the obvious function. Did you know the built in iOS Camera App has the ability to read QR codes? It’s true. Find a QR code and open the camera app on your iPhone. Using the viewfinder on the back, point your camera at the QR code and you’ll receive a notification showing what type of data was in that QR code allowing you to read it with a single tap.

A Notification will display as soon as you scan the QR code with your iPhone Camera App

There have been a whole slew of 3rd party apps that have done this before, but Apple now natively allows you to interact with QR codes using built the native camera App.

Using this feature will automate tasks such as opening unique websites, viewing info within a business card, or the ability to add someone’s contact information to your address book by auto filling their details.

So the next time you see a QR code, give it a shot by scanning it with your iOS camera App. It could save you some time, and it absolutely adds to the cool factor of the iPhone being much more than “just a phone”.

Be well friends. Happy QR code scanning! 📱
